GLOBAL PORTS HOLDING

Global Ports Holding (“GPH”) is a unique port group and operator of cruise and commercial ports with an established presence in the Mediterranean and Asia-Pacific regions, including extensive commercial port operations in Turkey and Montenegro.

GPH started its expansion outside of Turkey by acquiring majority shares of Port of Adria in Bar, Montenegro. GPH became the world's largest cruise port operator owing to breakthroughs it accomplished during the last few years, such as the acquisition of leading Spanish cruise port operator Creuers Barcelona.

GPH currently controls a portfolio of eight leading cruise and commercial ports at five different countries; Port Akdeniz - Port of Antalya, Ege Ports - Port of Kusadasi, Bodrum Cruise Port, Port of Adria, Lisbon Cruise Terminals, Creuers Barcelona - Barcelona Cruise Port, Cruceros Malaga - Malaga Cruise Port and Marina Bay Cruise Center Singapore.

Conscious of the importance of social responsibility and its significant role in society, GPH invests in sports, education, culture, and the environment based on the location of its operations. GPH believes sports contribute positively to individual and social development.

With this awareness, as GPH, we have been organizing Bodrum Global Run for two consecutive years. International Global Adria Half Marathon and 10 K race in Kotor, Montenegro will be the continuation of our efforts. Together with the official partners of this project, Municipality of Kotor, ASCG and UDG Faculty for Sport Management, we aim to reach all sports lovers in the region while contributing to Sport Tourism in Montenegro. With Montenegro’s outstanding aesthetics and extensive sports background, we believe International Global Adria Half Marathon and 10 K will be a great success.

Our dream is to make International Global Adria Half Marathon and 10 K a yearly tradition while further strengthening our contribution to sports and sports tourism by organizing marathons at our other port destinations.

About Montenegro

Today Montenegro (www.montenegro.travel/en) is becoming a well known touristic destination, despite the fact that it has been independent for only 9 years after being part of former Yugoslavia. Although it is counted as one of the smallest countries in Europe, Montenegro boasts with unique geographical diversity. The beauty of high mountains overshadowing the serene beaches, lakes and azure seascapes of Adriatic can definitely leave anyone with remarkable impressions. The capital of Montenegro – Podgorica is an administrative city in the central region. This is where mountains for a moment cede to the flat and rich plain, where nearby also lies Skadarsko Lake, a swampy bird sanctuary with villages of stone houses scattered along its coast. Montenegro is changing and developing very quickly and the divergence of old and new trends will sometimes confuse the visitor. In outlandish rural communities far from major cities, people are making their living with traditional sheep and cattle breeding, they also preserve ideas of stoic bravery counterfeited by the resistance to the foreign attackers. On the contrary, luxurious and contemporary coastal resorts such as Sveti Stefan, the lush Porto Montenegro, or chic restaurants of Podgorica reflect the other side of this rapidly-changing nation. From ancient times, the Montenegrin territory has been a melting pot for numerous cultures and interests, where they intersected, blended and opposed one another. In order to assure that the rights of all persons, regardless of their ethnic or national origin, are protected, a special provision was added to the Montenegrin Constitution ensuring the protection of all persons without regard to their national or ethnic origin.

Coastland

The coastline of Montenegro is 293km long. It has two distinct parts: the north is Boka Kotorska (The Gulf of Kotor), a series of four basins connected by straits and ringed with hills. At its north and east edge these hills climb horizontally from the sea to the peaks of Mountain Orjen and Lovcen. Warm air that comes from the sea rises along the cliffs cooling rapidly and generating rain in such quantities that it keeps the whole Gulf pleasantly green even in the warmest summer. The rest of the coastland is open towards the sea, with a small number of coves and just a few tiny islands.

Budva

Budva (www.budva.com/eng) is the biggest touristic destination of Montenegro, located in the central part of Adriatic coast. Being found 2500 years ago, Budva is considered as one of the oldest settlements of the Adriatic Sea coastland. The first settlement on Budva territory dates back to 5th century BC. As the legend goes, the founder was the Theban king Cadmus, while the written sources tell us about the Greek colony Buthoa already in 4th century BC. Budva can be divided as old and new town. Old town – is a picturesque and historical part of Budva, with the fortress and the old streets, located at the northern end of the bay. New town is a place where majority of restaurants, cafes and hotels are located, as well as famous Slovenska beach. The main touristic street that runs parallel to the waterfront is a promenade with lots of cafes, restaurants, clubs and discos. At the highest point in the Old Town rises the citadel, sheltered on all sides by high walls. The Municipal museum is situated in a stone construction in south-eastern corner of the town. The ground floor is dedicated tot temporary exhibitions, the first and second floor present the archeological findings from the era of the town’s founding, the Roman and medieval period.

Kotor

Kotor (www.tokotor.me) is located on a beautiful bay on the coast of Montenegro, it is a city steeped in tradition and history, with amazing scenic views. The Old City of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage site that was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and is filled with medieval architecture and historic monuments. Extending over four kilometers, the city walls that have protected Kotor for centuries lead up to the fortress of Saint Ivan. The educated Byzantine Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus (10th c. AD) wrote: “Around the town are high hills so that the sun can be seen only in midday during the summer and never in winter”. St Tryphon’s Cathedral is the most impressive building of Kotor; this Catholic cathedral was consecrated in the 12th century but reconstructed after several earthquakes. The Maritime Museum is situated in the Grgurina Palace on the Boka Navy Square. The museum is focused on the development of seafaring in the Gulf of Kotor and to the cultural progress of the region. Artisan’s Street is the longest street in the Old Town, among the web of small snaking streets this is the only one that was long enough to earn a name.

Bar

Bar (www.visitbar.org) represents a modern town that is expanding every day. Although it is a port town, it is amazingly clean and has many developed green areas.

Around it there are many tourist attractions. The old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress, with the remnants from the 15th century fortress and the castle of King Nikola, represent the historic and cultural monuments of this town. There’s an Old Olive Tree that is more than 2000 years old and Skadar lake, with one of the biggest habitats of birds, as well as a large number of monasteries and churches for the visitors who enjoy this type of tourism. Numerous festivals and cultural events, such as: the International TV Festival, Meetings Under The Old Olive Tree, the Bar Chronicle. Set up beaches and bays as Dobre Vode, Sutomore, Canj will make you come to Bar again.
